Prostitution Alleged At Elmhurst Hotel: Cops

The hotel has already been in hot water with the city, given other incidents

ELMHURST, IL – A woman was arrested on a prostitution charge this week at an Elmhurst hotel, police said.

The 30-year-old Bronx, New York woman, agreed to a sexual act in exchange for money about 5 p.m. Tuesday at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., police said.

The woman was taken to the police station and then released.

Extended Stay America has been in hot water with the city, receiving a chronic nuisance warning earlier this year.

On Jan. 9, 40-year-old Maria Velez, who was living at the hotel, and two boys were accused of attacking a man driving near the hotel. A few days later, the city issued a nuisance warning to the business.

According to police, Velez stepped into traffic and stopped the 63-year-old man while he was driving. The trio then opened the driver's side door, punched the man in his head and face, and stole his wallet, police said. The man was found bleeding from the head.

On Jan. 12, a 27-year-old man living at the hotel was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after he threatened other guests in the lobby, police said.

The hotel responded with steps it planned to take to improve safety.

Clarion Inn in Elmhurst received a chronic nuisance warning in the spring.
