Velez was charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The boys were charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.

She was taken to the DuPage County Jail, while the boys went to the Kane County youth lockup.

"It is extremely troubling that an adult responsible for supervising the minors in her care, instead, allegedly participated with them in a violent robbery upon an innocent motorist who stopped for them in the middle of the night," Elmhurst Police Chief Michael McLean said in the news release.
