Elmhurst is credited for building a new public library, improving signage and way-finding throughout downtown, and engaging in the process of updating the zoning ordinance to incorporate transit-supportive regulations. Elmhurst is likewise recognized for downtown parking consolidation through the building of multiple parking decks which create additional development opportunities and encourage users to park once and walk to multiple destinations.

The Elmhurst 255 and Wilder Crossing mixed-use developments are discussed as ways Elmhurst will continue to strengthen its position as a Transit Oriented Development community.
