Threatening Messages, Thefts: Elmhurst Cops

In one case, a person is reported to have threatened the U.S. Marshals Service.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving threatening messages, retail theft, drug possession, DUI, sexual assaults and an order of protection, among other offenses. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Threatening messages

  • A resident in the 400 block of West Grantley Avenue told police Thursday that he received threatening messages from a stranger.
  • A resident in the 800 block of North York Street told police Thursday about receiving threatening text messages from his ex-girlfriend. An officer asked the suspect to cease communication with the resident.
  • A person in the 100 block of Chandler called the U.S. Marshals Service and made threats to the agency's property about 4:30 p.m. Friday. The suspect denied making the threats.

  • Two women stole merchandise about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. They left in a green Toyota Camry. The first woman was described as black, 5-foot-7, 180 pounds, and having black short hair, brown eyes and a heavy build. The second woman was black, but no other information was available.
  • A man stole facial cream products about 4:30 p.m. Friday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. The man was described as white, in his mid-20s to 30s, having a dark brown beard, carrying a black backpack, and wearing a black baseball hat, a black V-neck T-shirt and blue jeans. An investigation is pending.
  • Two teenage boys were seen stealing a large long-sleeve shirt and a pair of gym shoes about 4 p.m Thursday at Goodwill Store, 675 W. North Ave. The first suspect was described as white, 16 to 18 years old, having bushy hair, and wearing a pink T-shirt and white jeans. The second one was described as white, 16 to 18 years old, having brown hair, and wearing a black coat with a red collar and black shorts with a white stripe.

Drug possession

  • Edmark Canto, 31, of Woodstock, was arrested about 1 a.m. Friday at Poplar and May on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

DUI

  • German Gomez, 31, of Villa Park, was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Sunday at West and North on charges of DUI, unlawful possession of marijuana, improper lane usage and tinted windows. He was released on bond.

Sexual assaults

  • Elmhurst Hospital, 155 Brush Hill Road, reported that a patient in the emergency room had been sexually assaulted while on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. An officer informed the university's police department. The assault occurred between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday.
  • A person visited the police station Friday to file a report of a sexual assault on behalf of a victim. An officer unsuccessfully tried to contact the victim.

Suspicious

  • A driver told police that someone was driving into oncoming lanes with a red and blue flashing strobe light in the back window about 2 p.m. Thursday near York and Valette streets. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 700 block of South Spring Road told police Saturday that someone was sending her suspicious text messages. An investigation is pending.

Sign thefts

  • Several street signs were discovered missing Friday at the intersections Grantley and Maple and Grantley and Larch. The public works department was notified.

Order of protection violated

  • A suspect was found to have violated an order of protection by attempting to make contact with a resident in the 100 block of East Crestview Avenue through phone calls, emails and text messages. A police report was made Friday. Charges are pending.

Bicycle frame abandoned

  • A yellow Cannondale F5 bicycle frame was found Saturday at the train depot. After checking through several databases, an officer was unable to find owner information. The frame was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Truck damage

  • The steering wheel housing unit on a company truck was damaged between Friday and Sunday at Optima Expedited Trucking, 760 N. Industrial Drive. An investigation is pending.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of East Madison Street told police Thursday about a fraudulent charge on his checking account.
  • A resident in the 700 block of Berkley Avenue told police Friday that someone opened a bank credit card in his name. The victim notified his bank of the fraudulent activity.

Driving violations

  • Marquis Scales, 40, of Melrose Park, was cited about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Addison and North on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana by a driver and tinted windows. Scales was released on bond.

Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
