Trash Service Between Elmhurst And Bensenville?

Addison Township is asking voters whether it should enter a contract for unincorporated areas.

ELMHURST, IL – Voters in Addison Township's unincorporated areas are set to decide whether the township should hire a garbage hauler to provide service.

The unincorporated areas include the neighborhoods between Elmhurst and Bensenville.

In a letter to residents, Addison Township Supervisor Dennis Reboletti said DuPage County officials have indicated they are considering having the county take over contracting for garbage collection in unincorporated areas.

After learning this, the township board voted in November to put a binding referendum on the March 19 ballot on whether to allow the township to enter a garbage contract. York Township has a similar measure on the ballot.

Reboletti said he and the township board have not taken a position on the question.

"The Township Board passed this resolution to place this referendum question on the ballot so that the residents of the unincorporated areas of Addison Township have a say in whether the Township Board should be permitted to contract for garbage services and to provide this option to the residents of the unincorporated areas," Reboletti said in the letter.

March's election, which is when Republicans and Democrats hold primaries, may see low turnout. Donald Trump and Joe Biden are expected to win their parties' presidential nominations, so the party contests may not drive voters to the polls.
