Winners announced in Elmhurst History Museum Photo Contest
Nearly 50 entries were received for Elmhurst History Museum's summer photo contest promoting the Great Midwestern Road Trip exhibit
This summer, the Elmhurst History Museum presented a photo contest to connect to “The Great Midwestern Road Trip” exhibit, which continues its run through October 11, 2020. The contest drew nearly 50 entries, and it evoked many wonderful images of past vacations in a summer when many planned trips went by the wayside.
The Grand Prize winner is Kathryn Price whose photo was taken at Lake Ocoee, Tennessee earlier this year. “My family took a motorhome trip south in late May, 2020, to give the kids a break from COVID confinement,” Kathryn said. “This photo represents freedom and joy from all things burdensome. For a couple of weeks, the kids could play and swim and welcome summer like an old, greatly missed friend.”
There were also two runner-up contestants with Kelly Premo and Mark Koch tying for second place honors. Kelly’s photo was taken in August 2019 at Mt. Rainier National Park, located about 60 miles southeast of Seattle in Washington. “This was taken during a sunrise hike that departs from the Paradise Visitor Center within the park,” Kelly stated. Mark submitted a photo of Chimney Rock near Ridgway, Colorado. Mark described the setting: “The photo was taken at ‘True Grit Meadow,’ where the final scene in the 1969 John Wayne movie was filmed.”
