York High School Hosts Orchestra Performances

The York Community High School Orchestras will present performances by the York Cadet, Concert and Symphony Orchestras.

ELMHURST, IL — The York Community High School Orchestras will present performances by the York Cadet, Concert and Symphony Orchestras conducted by Ray Ostwald on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The district said junior flutist and concerto competition winner Lauren Hund will perform the first movement of the Flute Concerto No. 2 in D by Mozart. The Symphony Orchestra will also perform Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, Carl Maria von Weber’s Overture to Der Freischütz and music from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean."

The concert, held in the Baker Auditorium at York High School, is free and open to the public.

The district said Hund, the featured musician, has been playing the flute for eight years. Studying with Dr. Jennie O. Brown, Hund is involved in numerous ensembles including the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Philharmonic, Winds of Madness Woodwind Quintet, and the York Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra. Hund is a five-time Illinois Music Educator Association District Band Selectee, and a 2017 Illinois All-State Band selectee.
