York Orchestras Present Annual Holiday Concert

The York Community High School Orchestras will present a Holiday Concert on Nov. 30.

ELMHURST, IL — The York Community High School Orchestras will present a Holiday Concert, including performances by the York Cadet, Concert and Symphony Orchestras conducted by Ray Ostwald. The concert will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The orchestras will offer a mixture of classical and seasonal favorites. The concert will be in York’s Merle E. Baker Auditorium. Admission is free.

According to the district, senior bassoonist and concerto competition winner Nick Jack Agliata III will perform the third movement of Mozart’s Concerto for Bassoon. Other featured works include Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance No. 8, Johann Strauss Jr.’s Thunder and Lightning Polka, J. S. Bach’s “Contrapunctus No. 1” from The Art of Fugue as well as Baroque Christmas concertos by Arcangelo Corelli and Francesco Manfredini.

Additional featured students include violinists Alex Boscov, Anita Wary, Adrian Zhuang, Elizabeth Yu, Maya Wlodarczyk, Dylan Mahoney and LiWen Hirt, along with cellists Gabby Mastro and Caitlin Forbes. Julian Wrobel and Alexandra Barishman will be featured on the harpsichord.

The district said York Orchestra students will be collecting canned and non-perishable food items at the concert in the lobby to be donated to a local food pantry.
