York Students Win Awards In Chinese Speech Contest

Six York High School students received awards in the Tenth Midwest Chinese Speech Contest.

ELMHURST, IL — Six York High School students received awards in the Tenth Midwest Chinese Speech Contest at Northside College Preparatory High School on April 21. The Chinese Speech Contest was hosted by the Midwest Chinese Teachers Alliance.

According to the district, there were about 200 students who participated in this contest, in which the high school division had 137 contestants, outnumbering all other divisions. Each high school teacher could enter no more than one student to participate in the contest.

  • High School Level One (32 contestants): Mia Beres (Silver Award), Anna Collins (Gold Award)
  • High School Level Two (35 contestants): Jenna Gallichio (Gold Award)
  • High School Level Three (34 contestants): Langston Gall (Gold Award)
  • High School Level Four (17 contestants): Marie Grasse (Silver Award)
  • High School Heritage Student Group (19 contestants): Hui Tey (Gold Award)

Yihua Marie Chou is the Chinese Teacher in York's World Language Department. She is also the adviser of the York Chinese Club.
