York's Spring Musical Receives 4 Nominations For Theatre Awards

York's production of "Tuck Everlasting" has been nominated as one of the five finalists in the state for Best Production.

ELMHURST, IL — York's spring musical of "Tuck Everlasting" has received four nominations from the Illinois chapter of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. The awards, also known as The Jimmy Awards, serves as an annual national celebration of outstanding achievement in musical theater performance by high school students, the district said in a release. IHSMTA categories include Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Overall Production.

York’s production of "Tuck Everlasting" has been nominated as one of the five finalists in the state for Best Production. In addition, Carina Kanzler, who played Mae Tuck, and Erin Lee, who played Winnie Foster, have been nominated as finalists for Best Actress.

The district said Kanzler will be pursuing musical theatre at New York University next year and Lee is a junior at York. Additionally, Performing Arts instructor Rebecca Marianetti is one of five nominees for Best Director.

The Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards will be held on June 4 in Chicago. The district said from among the 24 nominees, the Best Actor and Best Actress award recipients will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to participate in a performance enrichment program and represent Illinois at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, on Broadway June 25.
