2 Fires Put Out by EPD Friday

One person suffered smoke inhalation from a kitchen fire Friday afternoon on Darrow Ave.

EVANSTON, IL - One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation Friday in one of two house fires reported in a two-hour window.

A man living at 1725 Darrow Ave. was also displaced following a Code 4 fire that occurred there at 12:16 p.m. It started in the kitchen area of a second floor apartment of the tw0-and-a-half story frame residence, according to the Evanston Fire Department, who put out the fire by 12:30 p.m.

A little more than two hours later, fire crews responded to a mattress fire at 2137 Maple Ave. No one was injured as fire crews put out the blaze quickly.

The fire department, in a statement, said they “credit the professionalism of its personnel for the quick response time to both structures, which averaged 3 minutes, and the working smoke alarms, which alerted residents to call 911 to report the fires.”
