8-Year Old Boy Hit By Purple Line Train

Police in Evanston investigate a Saturday afternoon incident that left a young boy in critical condition.

EVANSTON, IL - An 8-year-old boy was hit by a CTA Purple Line train Saturday afternoon and is listed in critical condition with a head injury at Presence Saint Francis Hospital.

The train hit the boy just south of Dempster Street at 1318 Sherman Ave. at 1:07 p.m., according to police. The boy was walking with another boy on the tracks when he was hit by the southbound train. The other boy was not injured, but also taken to Saint Francis.

The two youths walked away from the Rice Education Center at 1101 Washington St., according to an Evanston Now report. A third boy who walked away later returned to the center.
