Beacon Academy Boys Basketball Team Wins Conference Title

On Monday, February 12 the Beacon Boys Basketball team won the League Championship over previously undefeated Intrinsic School (downtown) at Illinois Tech's Keating Sports Center, 44-35. This was one of the best runs in school history, and a way to cap off our 10-year anniversary as an institution.

Beacon was down 3-5 in the opening minutes of the first quarter, but would later take the lead about four minutes later. That was the last deficit of the game. Beacon held a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The motion offense was run to perfection, but it was the superb defense that stymied the Ravens throughout the contest.

Beacon hit buzzer beating shots in each of the first three quarters demonstrating the confidence Coach Marcus Dixon has instilled into the program. All week he spent time reviewing game film, working with individuals, and tweaking the defense to ensure a positive outcome. The boys responded in epic fashion.

Intrinsic defeated Beacon in December by a 17-point margin, 45-28. The first contest saw the Ravens bully Beacon for three of four quarters. That game also demonstrated how important our two "big men" are to the functionality of the offense after they fouled out at the start of the fourth quarter. Junior Luca Adams-Agresti, and Senior Lucas Harriott provide a lot of firepower inside the paint.

This time around with defensive switches executed to perfection the game was out of reach when Adams-Agresti fouled out again. This is the third time this season he has fouled out.

"I’m very very proud of y'all, I’m honestly speechless right now. Do me a big favor, go home and take care of your bodies," Coach Dixon stated, "Let’s prepare our minds, and bodies to continue this great brand of basketball we’re playing. Love yall man."

This is indicative of the culture established under his leadership. This was a collective victory for our student-athletes, our coaching staff, and our community.

Beacon recently earned the No.5 seed in the IHSA Regional tournament drawing a familiar foe in Yeshiva High School. That game is scheduled for President's Day on Monday, February 19 at 6:30 pm at Roycemore School (Evanston).
