About Old Arthur's Barbecue Sauce & Seasonings

Old Arthur’s
… Legacy Sauces and Seasonings

Few people in the history of mankind have had more concentrated experience in Open Pit Barbecuing than Arthur Watts. His immersion in the art began around the age of 6, and continued until his death over a century later at the age of 108!

Arthur was born a slave in in 1837. His primary task from a very early age was to tend the cooking fires on the estate that he served. As he approached adolescence, his responsibilities increased to cooking the main meals for the estate. Arthur continuously experimented with the freshest natural ingredients available to him, perfecting sauces and seasonings to complement the meats that he prepared.

Through meticulous trial and error, Arthur developed exceptional sauces and seasonings to accompany the meats he prepared. His recipes reflect his personal tenacity and a century’s worth of refinement.

We continue making Arthur’s sauce true to the original recipe. Like Arthur, we utilize the freshest ingredients to create Arthur's signature sauce. It is rich and tangy with just a hint of hickory. Arthur’s hearty barbecue sauce is bold in flavor and appreciated by the true barbecue enthusiast.

Arthurs original recipes have been passed down through our family, and continue to be made with pride. It is an American original, and after more than a century and a half, we are proud to continue sharing Old Arthur’s” Kewanee Red” Barbecue Sauce with you.
