Thelander graduated from ETHS in 2006 and played volleyball at Augustana College for four years. She’s been an assistant at the high school level.
Johnson comes to ETHS after a successful stint leading the women’s basketball program at Kennedy-King College in Chicago. At the Englewood school, Johnson turned around a program that went 3-21 the year before she arrived, leading the team to a 41-12 mark over two seasons and won the conference championship each time.

“We’re hiring two young coaches, and our hope and our vision is that they’ll lead the programs for a long time to come,” ETHS Athletic Director Chris Livatino said. “I’d love to see them both still coaching here 15 or 20 years down the road.”
Both Thelander and Johnson will be leading varsity programs for the first time.
