ETHS House Move On Hold as Equipment Malfunctions

Delay could cause long delays on Dodge Avenue.

Plans to move a two-story house from near an Evanston Township High School classroom to a foundation already in place two blocks north at 1820 Dodge Avenue were postponed Tuesday due to an equipment malfunction.

Evanston Now’s Charles Bartling reports that shortly after the move was scheduled to start at 9 a.m., “when workers tried to lower the feet of the stabilizing outriggers on the crane, the equipment froze up and a crane mechanic was summoned to make necessary repairs.”

The move will not occur until the crane is ready, which could result in a long-time blockage of Dodge Avenue. Lake Street was also blocked off during the time the move was supposed to have occurred.
