Evanston Among Most Educated Places in America: Study
Find out what percent of Evanston residents have bachelor's degrees and master's degrees.

Financial website NerdWallet identified four North Shore communities in its recent list of the 100 most educated places in America.
In determining the list, the website generated data regarding to the educational levels of residents in more than 2,000 places in the United States.

Northbrook landed in the top 20, with an overall rating of 79.55. The study found 69.3 percent of its residents have earned bachelor degrees and 18.1 percent have master’s degrees.
Three spots later, Highland Park (79.22) was found to have 69 percent of residents with a bachelor’s degree and 19.4 percent with master’s.

It came as no surprise to see Evanston at No. 24., but overall college towns did not dominate.
“College towns surprisingly don’t dominate our list even though new grads often decide to stay and launch their careers in the city where they went to school,” according to the study.
Glenview was 76.
Leading the entire list was Bethesda, Maryland, Brookline Massachusetts and Potoma, Maryland.
Here’s the formula NerdWallet used:
- The percentage of residents with at least a high school diploma or associate degree is 40% of the score.
- The percentage of residents with at least a bachelor’s degree is 30% of the score.
- The percentage of residents with at least a master’s degree is 10% of the score.
- The percentage of residents with a doctorate degree is 10% of the score.
- The percentage of residents with a professional degree is 10% of the score.
