Local Artist Steve Grant and Native Evanston Artist Paul Segedin Return to the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts
Evanston artists Steve Grant and Paul Segedin both return as juried artists to the 13th Annual Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, where their work will be both displayed and sold. The official hours for the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, located on Broadway Ave. from Belmont Ave. north to Hawthorne St., are Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. with additional hours for live music, food and drink tents until 10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Born in and currently residing in Evanston, artist Steve Grant is most known for his Chinese ink and watercolor on Chinese paper technique, with his depicted subjects often being animals and natural scenes. Grant describes his work as "gestures of spontaneous brushwork on paper expressing gratitude for the natural world." Originally starting his career as a sign painter for his own business, Grant eventually further his craft and learned under Master Chinese Artists Andy Hoi-Csiu Chan, who taught him the technique that he employs most frequently today and which feels most "like home." Grant's work can be seen at his website, http://stevegrantartist.com/.
A native of Evanston, artist Paul Segedin specializes in functional art, specifically furniture. He creates unique furniture primarily using sustainable, locally sourced woods from the Chicago-area in conjunction with copper pipe. Together, these form modern, dramatic pieces of furniture. Out of his Evanston workshop, Segedin creates handmade furniture out of wood and various other finishes, and other home accessories, such as trays, tablet stands and trivets, that compliment his unique style of furniture. His work can be seen at his website, https://urbanprairiedesign.com.
