'Fight For 15' Rally Planned in Evanston Sunday

Fast food workers will gather at Fountain Square for "May Day" rally supporting unions and a $15 an hour minimum wage.

EVANSTON, IL - Fast food workers in Evanston will rally at Fountain Square on Sunday to support the ‘Fight For 15’ movement and call for a $15 an hour minimum wage.

The rally, which will also call for more union rights, will be held in conjunction with International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day.

Those at the rally will demand “higher wages, respect in the workplace, and fair treatment from their employers,” according to a news release from Open Communities.

In Evanston, the minimum wage is $8.25 an hour, but according to the MIT living wage calculator, in order for a full-time working adult with one child in Cook County and the Chicago metro area to have a living wage, they must earn $23.53 an hour.
