Lakeshore Arts Festival Discontinued

Parks department makes decision to end yearly summer festival after 40 years in Evanston.

EVANSTON, IL - One of Evanston’s longest running annual events has sailed away into the history books.

The Lakeshore Arts Festival, held most recently at Dawes Park on the first weekend of August, has been discontinued.

Evanston Now reports Parks Director Lawrence Hemingway told the City Council that the decision to pull the plug was based on several other summer arts festivals in the area and declining attendance at the Evanston event, which was held for the final time from August 6-7 this year.

“Really nice assortment of vendors, great food from a variety of ethnicities,” Deena, from Chicago, wrote. “They kicked off the festival with a marching band to greet visitors. Beautiful park to host this event.”

Hemingway indicated plans that a winter festival could be in the works for as early as 2018.
