Local Women Receive YWomen Leadership, Education Awards

From YWCA Evanston/North Shore

EVANSTON, IL — YWCA Evanston/North Shore honored these local women at its annual YWomen Leadership Celebration on November 9:

Cindy Hartwig, who serves as executive director of women’s health and professional practice at Lutheran General Advocate Hospital and focuses on the needs of domestic violence survivors in medical settings;

Sekile M. Nzinga, director of the Northwestern University Women’s Center, who works to advance gender equity and inclusion at Northwestern and is also an author and activist; and

Alpana Singh, an accomplished sommelier, TV personality, author, restaurateur, and advocate for women’s empowerment.

Mya Y. Allen, a senior at Evanston Township High School, also was recognized as the recipient of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore Education Award.

The event, which was held at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel in Chicago, drew 400 attendees and raised $250,000 to support the work of YWCA Evanston/North Shore.

The YWomen Leadership Awards were created by YWCA Evanston/North Shore in 2008 to recognize, support and promote women’s leadership and the impact women have in bringing social change to our local communities.
