Mosquito Spraying in Evanston, Other North Shore Communities Rescheduled (UPDATED)

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District has moved its targeted spraying to Thursday night.


WILMETTE, IL — The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District has rescheduled targeted spraying for several North Shore communities from Wednesday to Thursday night.

Crews will be spraying from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, weather permitting, parts of Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, Kenilworth and Skokie. These operations are to reduce the mosquito population and curb diseases and other illnesses the insects carry.

Last week, the first human case of West Nile virus was reported in Cook County. A woman in her 50s from an unspecified northwest suburb became sick with the disease in late July, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

Over the summer, mosquitoes carrying West Nile have been found in Glenview, Evanston and Skokie.
