National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and Family Caregivers Month

This November, I am recognizing National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Caregivers Month. I was one of the 11 million dementia caregivers in America when I cared for my Mom, Anne, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2009, until she passed away in 2015 at age 70. While I am glad I was able to provide this care to my Mom, I have been forever changed by this role. We must find ways to give caregivers the support they need to overcome the emotional, physical and financial strain that comes with providing dementia care on a daily basis. I am asking my Representative Jan Schakowsky and my Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth to work together with the Alzheimer’s Association to help us reach our 2022 funding goal of $226 million for Alzheimer’s and dementia research.
