Northwestern Sued Over Woman's Fall at Scott Hall

Frances Larimer says University failed to maintain its premises.

A woman is suing Northwestern University, claiming the institution “breached its duty to exercise reasonable care” in the maintenance of the entryway, exterior steps and walkway at Scott Hall, where she fell on May 17, 2013 - according to the Cook County Record.

Frances Larimer filed the complaint May 8 in Cook County Circuit Court claiming negligence.

In the suit, Larimer claims she tripped and fell near the entryway’s step, landing or walkway, and sustained severe and permanent personal injuries.

The lawsuit, which seeks $50,000 plus fees, “cites Northwestern for improperly inspecting and maintaining its premises, failing to provide slip-resistant surfaces for pedestrians, neglecting to warn the plaintiff of dangerous conditions and failing to remedy the hazard in a timely manner,” according to the Record.
