Person Of Interest ID'd In Evanston Doughnut Shop Burglaries

Surveillance footage shows the same suspect broke into two Dunkin' Donuts last Sunday, detectives believe.

EVANSTON, IL — Police have a person of interest in a pair of late-night burglaries last week in Evanston. A suspect was caught on tape stealing from the safe and cash registers at two Dunkin' Donuts after 2 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 and escaping before police arrived.

Police said the first incident took place at the doughnut chain's 2494 Oakton St. location. The store manager got an alarm that someone was getting into the safe around 2:30 a.m. More than $3,000 in cash was discovered missing from the store.

Then, a little while later, manager told police video surveillance was showing someone break into the Dunkin' Donuts inside the Davis Street CTA station, at 1612 Benson Ave., police said. More than $1,000 was reported stolen in the second burglary.
