Incidents and arrests from the Evanston Police Department blotter: Sept. 1 - 13

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

HOME/BUSINESS BURGLARIES

- Someone forced open the door to an apartment storage area in the 1200 block of Emerson Street between 8 a.m. on Sept. 1 and 12:12 p.m. on Sept. 8. A bicycle was reported stolen.
- Someone stole a bicycle from an unlocked garage between 3 and 5:36 p.m. on Sept. 1 in the 2300 block of Isabella Street.
- Around 9:21 a.m. on Sept. 2, someone broke a window pane to the front door of a store in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue. and stole cash.
- Multiple bicycles were stolen from an unlocked garage between 11 p.m. on Sept. 4 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 5 in the 1400 block of Florence Avenue.
- Someone shattered the front glass door of a gas station between 3:30 and 5:15 a.m. on Sept. 5 in the 2400 block of Dempster Street, stealing cash and tobacco products.
- Someone used a prying tool to gain entry to a restaurant in the 1000 block of Davis Street between 3 a.m. on Sept. 6 and and 10:17 a.m. on Sept. 7. Nothing was reported stolen.
- Someone tried to get into a single-family home in the 1200 block of Grant Street shortly before 2 p.m on Sept. 7.
- Between midnight and 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 10, someone broke into a restaurant in the 800 block of Clark Street by smashing a window. Keys were reported stolen.
- Someone got into a residential garage through an unlocked door and stole a bicycle between 2 and 3:15 p.m on Sept. 12 in the 400 block of Greenleaf Street.
BIKE THEFTS
Locked bicycles were reported stolen from the following locations: Sidewalk of 1100 block of Davis Street, rack in the 1000 block of Central Street, rack in the 900 block of Ashland Street, rack near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Church Street and two stolen from the bike rack in the 600 block of Main Street.

THEFT AT BAR
Around 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 3, someone stole a purse from behind the bar at a hotel in the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue.
THEFT AT OFFICE
Wallets were stolen between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 from an office building in the 1500 block of Maple Avenue.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a gray 2015 Volkswagen between 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 6 and 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 7 from the street in the 600 block of Custer Street. A key was used to gain entry.
PICKPOCKETING
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, someone stole a wallet from inside the purse of a shopper at a supermarket in the 2400 block of Howard Street.
BLOWER THEFT
Someone stole a gas-powered leaf blower that had been left unattended between 10:45 and 11:04 a.m. on Sept. 11 in the yard of a single-family home in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Davis C. Von-Meding, 20, of the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 10:04 a.m. on Aug. 31 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with aggravated assault in connection with an incident around 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 at Clark Street. He is accused of swinging a shovel at a lifeguard and taking a board from another during an intoxicated disturbance.
Nicholas W. McDaniels, 43, of the 9000 block of Lacrosse Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 1:33 a.m. on Sept. 1 in the 100 block of Asbury and charged with driving under the influence.
Jana B. Measells, 47, of the 800 block of Washington Street in Evanston, was arrested at 4:31 p.m. on Sept. 1 in the 800 block of Washington Street and charged with driving under the influence.
James D. Potts, 18, of the 2300 block of Greenwood Street in Evanston, was arrested at 9:06 p.m. on Sept. 1 at his home and charged with robbery along with a juvenile. He's accused of robbing and battering a 18-year-old and 20-year-old Evanston man along with two others. One reportedly had a knife and one implied a gun. Investigators determined the robbers were known to the victims and identified and arrested Potts.
Alexander J. Roberts, 21, of the 9000 block of South Laflin Street in Chicago, was arrested at 9:38 a.m. on Sept. 3 in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue and charged with retail theft.
Sam Mason, 31, of the 7500 block of North Damen Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 10:22 p.m. on Sept. 3 at the Lake County Jail and charged with residential burglary.

Kenneth Johnson, 63, of Evanston, was arrested at 8:05 a.m. on Sept. 4 in the 2400 block of Davis Street and charged with disorderly conduct.
William D. Gaddy, 28, of the 1600 block of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the 1500 block of Fowler Avenue and charged with unlawful use of a weapon. After Gaddy was asked to leave the home of his 18-year-old girlfriend, he reportedly returned with a gun and battered her while holding a firearm. Police found him with a Glock .40 caliber handgun about a block away.
Teresa R. Marousek, 52, of the 2000 block of Howard Street in Evanston, was arrested at 5:17 p.m. on Sept. 4 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with unauthorized credit card possession.
Mokhtar Azadeh, 45, of the 2100 block of Howard Street in Evanston was arrested at 8:19 p.m. on Sept. 5 at his home and charged with violation of an active order of protection.
Jeff S. Russell, 38, of the 2300 block of Rosemont Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue and charged with retail theft.
Maurice D. Austin, 28, of the 2000 block of Ashland Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 6:46 p.m. on Sept. 6 in his block of residence and charged with disorderly conduct.
Jonathan D. McDonald, 31 , of the 7500 block of North Damen Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 4:14 a.m. on Sept. 7 near the intersection of McCormick Place and Green Bay Road and charged with driving under the influence.
Richard J. Byrne, 62, of the 800 block of Forest Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 8 in the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue and charged with driving under the influence.
Anthony F. Kasenga, 70, of the 600 block of Hyacinth Place in Highland Park, was arrested at 5:36 p.m. on Sept. 9 in the 2700 block of Green Bay Road and charged with retail theft.
Jon R. Moskow, 48, of the 1500 block of Chicago Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 10:37 p.m. on Sept. 9 in the 600 block of Grove Street and charged with driving under the influence.
Lashondra N. Nicholson, 49, of the 1300 block of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 8:48 a.m. on Sept. 9 at her home. and charged with aggravated assault. She reportedly attacked a 23-year-old family member who she found asleep in her house with a knife after telling him she wanted him out.
Ronald E. Ruffin, 55, of the 4600 block of Davis Street in Skokie, was arrested at the Evanston Police Department around 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 and charged with two counts of electronic harassment.
Walter L. Carson, 26, of the 2200 block of East 68th Street in Chicago, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the 600 block of South Boulevard and charged with criminal trespassing to property.
Matthew I. Dubinsky, 40, of the 500 block of Michigan Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the 3300 block of Dempster Street and charged with driving under the influence.
Randall T. Mercer, 38, of the 700 block of Grey Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 1:43 p.m. on Sept. 12 and charged with criminal trespassing to property.
