EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Around 10 a.m. on Nov. 12, a man believed to be mentally ill put an apparent handgun toward the stomach of a 57-year-old Chicago resident standing on the corner of Asbury Avenue and Howard Street. The seemingly armed man was startled when his bicycle fell and fled the scene into Chicago.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a purse, laptops and electronics after getting into a single-family home in the 2100 block of Maple Avenue between 6:50 and 9 p.m. on Nov. 13 through an unlocked bedroom window.
  • Someone burglarized a single-family home in 1500 block of Brummel Street around 10:40 a.m. on Nov. 16 after entering through an unlocked door.
  • Someone broke into a single-family home in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road around 2:20 a.m. on Nov. 20 and stole a purse.
  • Between 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 22, someone stole bicycles from an unlocked garage in the 1000 block of Hinman Avenue.
  • Someone stole tools from a garage left unlocked in the 1500 block of Pitner Avenue between 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 24.
  • Someone forced open a front door of an apartment between 12:30 and 2:25 p.m. on Nov. 24 in the 300 block of Custer Avenue and stole jewelry.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone forced open the back door of a restaurant in the 1700 block of Benson Avenue between 11 p.m. on Nov. 13 and 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 14. Nothing was reported stolen.

MAN WITH GUN/SHOTS FIRED

  • A man with a gun was reported shortly after 10 p.m. on Nov. 16 around Foster Street and Ashland Avenue.
  • Gunfire was reported around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 in the area of Sheridan Road and Chicago Avenue.
  • Police received another report of shots fire around 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 18. Nothing was found in either location.
  • A man with a gun was reported in the area of St. Francis hospital in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue around 10 p.m. on Nov. 21. No gun was located.

STOLEN CARS

  • Between noon and 2 p.m. on Nov. 18, someone stole a silver Toyota parked on the street in the area of Davis Street and Sherman Avenue.
  • Between 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 20, someone stole a black Volkswagon from parked on the street in the 200 block of Custer Avenue.

HOMICIDE
Tanuel Major, 49, was found dead at First United Methodist Church at Church Street and Hinman Avenue. Her dead was ruled a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to her head. She is believed to have been killed in the alcove of the church on the night of Nov. 18. Her body was discovered the following day. More info...

DOG STABBED
A man walked up to an elderly couple outside a Target store shortly after noon on Nov. 23 and asked to pet their dog before stabbing it and running away. More info...

ARRESTS

Kenneth A. Battinus, 41, of the 900 block of West Greenwood Street, Evanston, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue and charged with criminal sexual assault and home invasion. More info...

Cynthia E. Atkins, 60, of the 5800 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 and charged with battery in the 900 block of Davis Street.

Larry M. Shearer, 57, of the 4100 block of Perimeter Center Drive, Oklahoma City, was arrested around 1 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the 900 block of Foster Street and charged with criminal trespassing.

Malcolm T. Black, 25, of the 300 block of Sherman Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 in Chicago and charged with criminal damage to property.

Dominique M. Chaney, 26, of the 1200 block of Cleveland Street, Evanston, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on Nov. 15 in the area of Howard Street and Seeley Avenue and charged with driving under the influence.

Lambert C. Sayles, 20, of the 2300 block of Lee Street, Evanston, was arrested around 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the 2000 block of Lake Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Loren J. Austin-Chewing, 24, of the 7600 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested around 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 16 in the 400 block of Sheridan Road and charged with battery.

Victoria A. Barnes, 42, of the 300 block of 14th Street, Wilmette, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 and charged with retail theft at the Green Bay Road Whole Foods Market.

Aldo Lopez Herrera, 25, of the 5400 block of West Thomas Street, Chicago, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Nov. 17 in the area of Salem Lane and Salem Circle in Skokie and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Erik Z. Abron, 28, of the 700 block of Florence Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 18 in the 2400 block of Oakton Street and charged with driving under the influence.

Peter J. Craig, 55, of the 1600 block of West Devon Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 19 in the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue in connection with a small fire in the laundry room. he was charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property and reckless conduct.

Kevin H. Humes, 39, of the 600 block of Sherman Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at home around 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 20 and charged with domestic battery.

Dionne E. Adams, 50, of the 1400 block of Howard Street, Evanston, was arrested at home around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 20 and charged with domestic battery.

Anton T. Mason, 29, of the 3800 block of Northbrook Drive, Nashville, Tennessee, was arrested around 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 23 and charged with public indecency in the 1600 block of Benson Avenue. He reportedly exposed his genitalia to a Chicago woman after they were the last two riders on a Purple Line train and was found by police as he exited the station.

Jade E. Rogers, 23, of the 20900 block of County Road 8, Bristol, Indiana, was arrested around 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 24 and charged with driving under the influence in the area of South Boulevard and Chicago Avenue.

Sean M. Guaditis, 53, of the 1300 block of North Yale Avenue, Arlington Heights, was arrested at the Evanston Police Department shortly after 9 p.m. on Nov. 24 and charged with resisting or obstructing an officer and causing an injury.

Melissa A. Mackey, 43, of the 100 block of North Sangamon Street, Chicago, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue and charged with battery.

Anne F. Nash, 48, of the 3300 block of Hartzell Street, Evanston, was arrested at her home around 8 a.m. on Nov. 25 and charged with retail theft.
