'Run for Walk' Will Remember Former Northwestern Coach in July

A 4.1-mile run in Evanston will finish at Ryan Field, where Randy Walker led the Wildcats for seven seasons.

EVANSTON, IL - Registration is underway for the fifth annual “Run for Walk,” a 4.1 mile trek around Evanston this July that will honor former Northwestern University Head Football Coach Randy Walker 10 years after his death.

Those participating in both the 4.1 mile run and 5K family walk on Sunday, July 31 will finish on Ryan Field, the home of the Wildcats’ football team, according to a community post on the Daily North Shore. The unique run distance of 4.1 miles comes from Walker’s playing days, when he wore number 41 for Miami University (Ohio).

Walker served as the Wildcats coach from 1999 to 2005. He died just two months before the 2006 was to start. Before coming to Northwestern, he was the football boss at his alma mater, when he led the RedHawks from 1990 to 1998.
