There is still time to end the Ryan Field project. While we are behind, and perhaps we will lose, we must keep trying. Most Livable City Association has already filed a lawsuit against the concerts. The Village of Wilmette is considering filing another lawsuit. While the concerts cause many problems in themselves (noise, traffic, interference in activities and with institutions, such as the hospital and salon), Northwestern says that without concerts, the project will not happen.

On one hand, the ordinance that approves demolition says that Ryan Field is “not historically significant” and that demolition “preserves historical resources.” On the other hand, Northwestern and the City of Evanston obviously know that Ryan Field is historically significant and that demolition gets rid of historical resources. They are trying to make a memorandum of agreement regarding the destruction of historical resources! They were notified by the Illinois State Historic Preservation Office when Ryan Field was listed as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. They received complaints from Native Americans regarding the destruction of tribal homeland, ancestral burials, and archeological resources!

Many proponents talk about the assets to the community despite all the complaints they have received from our neighbors in Evanston and Wilmette about destruction to our communities!

Many of them also talk about the “environmental sustainability” of the project, despite the harm it causes! The demolition and new construction in themselves cause the creation of garbage, the burning of fossil fuels, and the elimination of the Earth’s valuable resources. The new stadium has water problems that will harm the canal, our trees, the land, and groundwater.
