Smylie Brothers Fails Underage Liquor Compliance Check
The Oak Avenue business was the only one out of 19 in Evanston to sell alcohol to an underage person during a compliance check.

The Smylie Brothers Restaurant and Brewery located at 1615 Oak Avenue was the only Evanston location to fail a compliance check conducted by the Evanston Police Department with help from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission.
The establishment, which was cited under city ordinance for underage sale of an alcoholic beverage, was one of 19 separate locations tested on Wednesday, March 25.
According to an Evanston police news release, these operations are usually conducted twice a year at various times to keep businesses in compliance with state and local ordinance that restrict the sale of liquor to persons of age. In the checks, all underage individuals used are at least 18.

“These individuals enter the establishment under the supervision of law enforcement and attempt to make a purchase,” the release states. “If the establishment sells liquor without checking the proper identification to verify the underage purchaser is of age, the establishment is then cited for the underage sale.”
