Stabbing In Apartment; Trespassing Arrest At Library: Blotter
Incidents and arrests from the Evanston Police Department blotter from Oct. 5 - 12.

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
AGGRAVATED BATTERY
Someone was cut with a box cutter sometime between 5 a.m. and 12:33 p.m. on Oct. 7 in the common area of an apartment in the 1400 block of Howard Street. No further information was immediately available.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone smashed the front glass door of a convenience store in the 900 block of Davis Street and stole tobacco products.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone smashed the window of a Toyota parked in the 2100 block of Dobson Street between 4 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8 a.m. Oct. 8.
THEFT
Someone stole an outdoor heater from the yard of a single-family home in the 1800 block of Emerson Street during the overnight hours of Oct. 7-8.

SHOPLIFTING
- Alcohol was reported stolen from a department store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue around 10 p.m. on Oct. 8.
- Stereo equipment was reported stolen from a department store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue around 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 9
- Alcohol was reported stolen from a department store in the 2200 block of Howard Street around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11.
SHOTS FIRED REPORTS
- Around 1 a.m. on Oct. 4 in the area of Callan Avenue and Mulford Street.
- Around 11 p.m. on Oct. 5 in the area of Emerson Street and Dodge Avenue.
- Around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 in the 400 block of Barton Avenue.
ARRESTS
Dejuan T.B. Drew, 31, of the 1400 block of Cleveland Street in Evanston, was arrested around 4:20 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the 2300 block of Emerson Street and charged with manufacture or delivery of cannabis, a felony.
A 35-year-old homeless Evanston man was arrested at 6 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the Evanston Public Library at 1703 Orrington Ave. and charged with trespassing.
Jalil T. Petty, 20, of the 100 block of Callan Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 9 p.m. on Oct. 4 and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
Throy B. Nightingale, 30, of the 3800 block of West Ainslie Street in Chicago, was arrested at 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the 1400 block of Grey Street and charged with the manufacture of delivery of cannabis.
A 33-year-old Evanston woman was issued a citation for yelling in violation of the city's noise ordinance around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 in the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue.
George W. Lytyle, 73, of the 1700 block of Brown Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 6:21 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with battery.
Shanqueata T. Jackson, 23, of the 2200 block of Crain Street in Evanston, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 6 down the block from her home and charged with driving under the influence.
Robert J. Merschantz, 36, of the 7700 block of North Hermitage Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 8:22 p.m. on Oct. 6 and charged with retail theft at the Whole Foods grocery store in the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue.
Andrew C. Davis, 34, of the 800 block of Dryden Place in Arlington Heights was arrested at 3 a.m. on Oct. 7 in the 1300 block of Chicago Avenue and charged with trespassing.
Matthew M. Barry, 34, of the 0-100 block of Steeple Chase Drive in Hawthorn Woods, was arrested at 1 a.m. on Oct. 8 in the 300 block of Dempster Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Lawrence T. Barron, 30, of the 7600 block of North Bosworth Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Oct. 8 in the 7600 block of North Greenview Avenue and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
Sherwin L. Flowers, 29, of the 5700 block of North Ridge Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 10 a.m. on Oct. 9 at the Skokie Courthouse and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
Jared C. Lester-Childs, 32, of the 700 block of Grey Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 10 at his home and charged with domestic battery.
Gregory L. Shumate, 29, of the 2300 block of Noyes Court in Evanston, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. on Oct. 11 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with battery.
Herman Townsell, 51, who is listed as homeless, was arrested at 7:33 p.m. on Oct. 11 in the 7500 block of North Western Avenue and charged with failure to properly register as a sex offender.
Carol L. Zoltek, 71, who is listed as homeless, was arrested at 10:13 p.m. on Oct. 11 and charged with trespassing. She was also arrested a week earlier in Glenview after police said she pulled a fire alarm at the station when there was no fire.
