Swimmer Pulled From Lake By Evanston Firefighters

A Skokie man was in critical condition after being pulled from Lake Michigan behind a home on Sheridan Road Thursday morning.

EVANSTON, IL — Rescuers pulled a Skokie man from Lake Michigan Friday morning in Evanston, according to police and fire officials. A resident called 911 around 8:46 a.m. to report a swimmer in distress behind a house in the 2700 block of Sheridan Road at Ingleside Place. A full water rescue response from the Evanston Fire Department was dispatched and rescue swimmers were deployed within six minutes of the call, according to Division Chief Paul Polep.

A man in the lake told arriving firefighters that his friend had gone underwater and showed rescuers the last known location. Rescue swimmers converged on the area and pulled the man from the lake around 9:16 a.m., according to Polep.

Firefighters were waiting on shore and immediately started performing CPR on the man, who was taken to Evanston Hospital in critical condition. Polep said the hospital was administering tests and the man remained in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.
