Teen From Skokie Caught with Handgun on Howard Street

Kenneth Campbell fled from police into the back of a business on Howard Street Monday night, according to reports.

EVANSTON, IL - A teenager from Skokie was arrested Monday night on Howard Street after police on deployment control noticed him walking with "a bulky object near his waistband."

Kenneth Campbell, 19 is an active gang member, police said in a news release on Tuesday. He fled westbound on Howard Street at 7:07 p.m. when police stopped him, continuing to hold the object near his waistband, according to police.

Campbell was arrested after he fled into a rear entrance of a business in the 700 block of Howard St. and attempted to discard a black handgun he pulled from under his shirt, an item later determined to be a loaded Canik 9mm semi-automatic handgun. He received several charges, including unlawful use of a weapon by felon, unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member and disobedience to police.
