UPS Sued Month After Driver Hit Woman in Evanston

The victim remains immobilized, her attorneys contend.

A lawsuit has been filed against UPS in relation to last month’s incident in which an Evanston woman was struck by a truck near Ryan Field.

ABC-7-Chicago reports the complaint alleges that Erin Hinner, 30, was crushed under the truck’s weight for 30 minutes on December 22 until firefighters freed her. Hinner, a new mother, was allegedly crossing Ashland Avenue in the crosswalk at Central Street when the truck hit her and pinned her body under its axle. She was put in a drug-induced coma at Evanston Hospital to help save her life.

Attorneys for Corboy & Demetrio, the firm representing Hinner, indicated that she has “traumatic head injuries” and was “crushed from her arms to her legs and has a shattered pelvis.” She remains immobilized. The firms also filed an Emergency Motion for a Protective Order to preserve evidence in the case.

A man who was in the emergency room the night Hinner was admitted recently told Evanston Patch that she was in “a lot of pain” and heard from officers that were in the ER that night indicated she has been trapped under the truck.

“I remember her screaming in pain,” he said. “The officers were pretty affected too.”
