Veterans Day 2018 Observed In Evanston

The 100th anniversary of the end of World War I is Sunday, see what's open and closed Monday.

EVANSTON, IL — The 100th anniversary of the "War to End All Wars" is Sunday. It has been a national holiday since Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Originally known as Armistice Day Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance in 1926. President Eisenhower in 1954 signed an amendment renaming it Veterans Day and expand it to honor all veterans. This year it falls on Sunday, Nov. 11.

In Evanston, a commemorative ceremony honoring the service of veterans and military personnel will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Assembly will start at 10 a.m.

A Veterans Day big band salute concert with the Brian Patti Orchestra will be held at 3 p.m. at Evanston Rocks, 1012 Church St.
