West Side Pair Rob Woman With Fake Gun: Police

The 2 suspects fled the scene and tossed a BB gun in some bushes early Saturday morning In Evanston.

EVANSTON, IL — A Chicago man and a woman have been charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint in Evanston early Saturday morning. Police said a 911 caller reported an armed robbery around 1:40 a.m. in the 1100 block of Madison Street, about a block west of Ridge Avenue.

A 35-year-old Evanston woman told police she had just been robbed at gunpoint of her wallet and phone by two people who left the scene heading west in a red car. Other witnesses told police two suspects had been seen running away from the same car just a half block away, according to Evanston police spokesperson Perry Polinski.

Police found two suspects in an alley in the 700 block of Dodge Avenue, a few blocks west of the scene of the reported robbery. Polinski said investigating officers also found a BB gun described as a black handgun in some bushes in the 1200 block of Madison Street.

Brian Herron, 33, of the 5000 block of West Jackson Street, and Maia Space, 20, of the 1900 block of South Homan Avenue, were taken into custody without incident and identified by the victim. They were both charged with one count of aggravated robbery, a class 1 felony, police said.

Both defendants, who are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, were also facing previous charges in connection with other offenses, county records show.

Herron is accused of identity theft. He is being held at Cook County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond and his next court appearance has been set for Nov. 9. Space faces retail theft charges, she is being held at Cook County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond head of a scheduled Oct. 24 court appearance, according to the office of the Cook County Sheriff.
