Woman Raises Money for Evanston Family Looking to Avoid Homelessness

Search is on for an apartment for the Watson family, Joanna Broder says.

An Evanston family recently was the benefactor of an online campaign that netted more than $10,000 to help keep them from eviction.

The Daily Northwestern reports that one woman, Joanna Broder, organized the campaign to help the Watson family through the website FundRazr.

One hundred twenty eight contributors have donated toward the goal of $20,000.

Expected to be evicted on January 5, Broder noted on the fundraiser page that had been delayed due to the cold weather.

“We are still trying to secure an apartment for the Watsons,” she wrote during the early afternoon hours of January 6.

The Watson family includes wife Laurel, her husband — who wishes to remain anonymous — and their 7-year-old son, Paul.

“Paul is adorable, respectful and smart,” Broder wrote on the page. “He loves books and puzzles so much that he sometimes falls asleep with them. His reading and math skills are two years ahead of grade level. He deserves a fighting chance, yet with the struggle his parents have been experiencing trying to avoid/delay foreclosure, he was hospitalized this past year due to stress.”
