Assistant Public Defender Offers to Write Check to Menards for Man's Allegedly Stolen Candy

Man on probation for residential burglary is accused of stealing two boxes of candy from Menards, prosecutors said.

A man on probation for residential burglary was accused of stealing two boxes of candy with a street value of $13 from a Menards in Evergreen Park. Peter Marcus, 24, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a retail theft charge Aug. 26.

The assistant public defender said Marcus was in the U.S. Marine Corps for over two years.

“I will write a check to Menards,” she said.

“He’s on felony probation and he allegedly takes two boxes of candy,” Judge Felice said as he set bail at $30,000. “Those are very expensive boxes of candy, allegedly.”
