ATM Technician Stole $72K from Employer's Machines: Prosecutor

South Side man told police he didn't realize he had taken that much money over two-year period, prosecutor says.

A Chicago man with no prior criminal background was arrested on charges that he stole money from his employer over a two-year period.

Anthony McIntosh, 59, appeared in Bridgeview bond court on Friday after being charged with felony theft.

The prosecutor said that McIntosh was employed as a technician for a Chicago company that supplied automated tell machines. Over the course of two years, McIntosh took money in amounts ranging between $500 and $1,000.

McIntosh took small amounts of cash which he would then move around to other machines so they would balance, according to the charges.

Around May 17, when his employer discovered that an ATM was empty, the employer audited the machines.

McIntosh reportedly told police when he was arrested on Wednesday that he believed he stole around $30,000 over the past two years.

The prosecutor said the owner of the company supplied documentation placing the amount stolen at $72,850.

When confronted with that fact, McIntosh said he did not realize he had taken that much money, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the Judge Matthew Carmody that Mcintosh has no prior criminal background. He was a married, father of two, and has lived on the South Side his entire life.

Bail was set at $50,000 with ten-percent to apply. McIntosh’s next court hearing is June 17.
