Business Owner Doesn't Know How Accused Forger Got Her Account Information

Chicago woman tried to present a check for $2,350 at Evergreen Park check cashing store.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A 23-year-old Chicago resident was arrested on Aug. 20 after she allegedly tried to cash a fraudulent check at a check cashing store.

Gerale Powell went into the PLS Loan store at 2507 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park. There, prosecutors said she presented a check for $2,350 drawn off a business owner’s account.

The store associate, familiar with the business owner’s checks, noticed that the check Powell presented were of a different quality, the prosecutor said.

Evergreen Park police said the business owner told them she does not know how Powell got her account information.

Powell has a pending case in DuPage County for retail theft and is out on bond for that charge, the prosecutor said.

Bail was set at $50,000. Powell’s next hearing is schedule for Sept. 13 in Bridgeview.
