Chicago Police Officer Accused of Shooting at Suburban Cop Who Tried to Pull Him Over

A Merrionette Park cop suspected he was following a drunken driver.

A Merrionette Park police officer who tried to pull over a motorist on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday evening was met with gunfire, and charges are now pending against the 52-year-old man who opened fire — a Chicago cop.

The Chicago Police officer has been stripped of his powers, sources told Fox Chicago Monday, and the Independent Police Review Authority is also investigating.

The Merrionette Park officer, who was off duty, pulled behind the off-duty Chicago officer after he saw him driving erratically. At 111th and Kedzie, he got out of his car and showed his badge to the Chicago officer, who sped away. The Merrionette Park officer called 911 and pursued. The cars stopped near the Morgan Park police station and the Chicago officer got out with his weapon, walked toward the pursuing Merrionette Park officer, and opened fire, according to Fox.

“If the allegations are true, the actions and behavior demonstrated by this officer are beyond unacceptable, have absolutely no place in our department and he will be separated from CPD,” according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

The off-duty Merrionette Park officer drove away and went to the Morgan Park station to report the incident. Chicago Police took the off-duty Chicago officer into custody on suspicion of drunken driving.
