Dist. 124 Mourns Loss Of Central Middle School Sixth-Grader

D124 shares news of Central Middle School student Alan Reyes' passing on Friday evening in an email to parents.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- An Evergreen Park sixth-grader passed away early Friday evening. Alan Reyes attended Central Middle School in Dist. 124 . Supt. Dr. Robert Machak and CMS principal Michelle Reed shared the news of Alan’s passing in an email to parents.

Alan had attended Southeast Elementary School. He was a proud member of CMS band and was looking forward to an upcoming band competition at the school. The email to parents did not mention how the boy died.

“It is with overwhelming sadness that we share news of the passing of a member of our District 124 and Central Middle School family,” the administrators stated in their email.

The school district's student services staff will be available Monday at Central Middle School for students and staff. The email also referred parents to an article from the National Association of School Psychologists for advice on supporting adolescents with loss and grief. The school district also offered a list of local counseling options for children.

“At this time, memorial plans are not yet available. We ask that you please respect the family’s privacy. Our school district is a large family of incredible people and our thoughts and prayers are with the Reyes family.”
