EPCHS Alum In The Spotlight: Kevin Weldon, Class Of 1975
Now a town board member and activist in New York, the proud EP alum has a distinguished career as a dancer and musical theater performer.

A 1975 Evergreen Park Community High School graduate is making a difference in local politics after putting together a distinguished career as a dancer and stage performer.
Kevin Weldon has served on the Town Board of Chatham, New York, for the past four years, chairing both the Parks and Recreation and Climate Action committees. Chatham is a town of a little more than 4,000 residents in upstate New York, about halfway between New York City and Boston.
Since 2018, Weldon’s responsibilities on the town board have included overseeing the operation, maintenance and expansion of the town’s parks and recreation programs, and working to lessen the town’s carbon footprint, with such innovations as installation of electric vehicle charging stations, converting the town streetlights to LED and swapping out old heating systems in the town highway garage from oil burning systems to a high efficiency biomass boiler system which operates using the downed trees that the highway department cleans up over the 90 miles of roads in the town.

His passion for performing was made stronger at EPCHS, where he was active in the school’s music department during his two years here. He sang and played piano in the chorus, and performed at school assemblies and in band and chorus solo competitions as a Mustang.
Mr. James Gilworth, head of the EPCHS music department at that time, was a strong mentor regarding his interests in music and performing in general.
In addition to his town board duties, Weldon currently works in interior design, providing workroom services to designers and other clients in the Upper Hudson Valley and NYS Capital
District in New York.
Weldon and his husband, Peter, have been together for 26 years.
