EPCHS Alum In The Spotlight: Rasheed Dyson, Class Of 2020
One of Evergreen Park's all-time basketball greats has aspirations to play at the highest level.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — One of Evergreen Park Community High School’s best basketball players of all-time still has his sights set on the highest level.
NBA? Rasheed Dyson, EPCHS Class of 2020, was recently asked.
“That’s the goal,” he said.

“The goal is to play basketball and make money doing it,” Dyson, a star player at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan, added. “Whether that’s the (NBA) G League, or the highest level I can play at, that’s the goal.”
Dyson is off to a tremendous start to his post-EPCHS basketball journey. He was recently named to the National Junior College Athletic Association's Region XII Division II All-Region Team and was on the All-Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s first team All-Western Conference and All-Defensive team after his second season with the Bruins.

“Kellogg is a good school,” Dyson said. “They do a great job of making sure everyone’s grades are up so you can play. And I’ve had a great time meeting new teammates.”
But Dyson’s time at Kellogg will soon come to an end, as it’s a 2-year program. But his basketball career most certainly will not.
“I’m planning to play at a 4-year school next and will, hopefully, make a decision soon,” Dyson said, adding that he’s open to offers from NCAA and NAIA schools across the Midwest.
No matter where Dyson ends up next, he will carry with him a legacy of having been one of the best players EPCHS has ever seen.
As the go-to player his senior year, Dyson averaged 25 points per game and 10 rebounds per game under then Head Coach Pat Flannigan. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player that year and was selected as a Chicago Tribune Daily Southtown All-Area Team Honorable Mention.
Over the course of his four years at EPCHS, Dyson totaled 988 points. That career point-total was the highest in modern school history until Nolan Sexton eclipsed 1,000 points this past season.
Dyson’s most cherished memory from EPCHS is hitting a game-winning three-point shot as time expired in a win over a rival during his 2018-2019 junior year.
“The student section was going crazy, chanting my name,” Dyson remembers. “It’s a great feeling to hear that when you hit a big shot.”
