Evergreen Park Man Gets 11 Years For Fatal Accidental Shooting of Friend
Witnesses told police man was waving gun and pointing it at people when it discharged accidentally killing friend, reports say.

An alleged Evergreen Park gang member pleaded guilty in Cook County Criminal Court earlier this week to the fatal shooting of a friend during a Fourth of July party, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Cook County Judge Matthew Coghlan sentenced Richard L. Magnan, 35, to 11 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Magnan, who has the words “F--- the world” tattooed across his face along with the Chicago White Sox logo, was at a party in the 6200 block of South Austin Avenue.

Police said Magnan and his friends walked to a nearby Walgreens around 1 a.m. July 5, when Magnan grabbed a gun from his car.
Witnesses told police that Magnan was waving the gun, pointing it at his friends when it went off, hitting Joel Bentley, 30, in the abdomen, Patch reported.

Bentley was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said that witnesses identified Magnan as the person who fired the fatal shot.
Magnan has prior convictions for attempted murder and unlawful use of a firearm by a felon in Illinois. He was also convicted in 2004 in Nevada for unlawful use of a firearm by a felon, the Chicago Tribune said.
The shooting occurred on a holiday weekend where 82 shootings occurred in 84 hours.
