Ex-Marine Charged With Tenth Retail Theft

Bail set at $75,000 because of man's high pre-trial risk assessment score, judge says.

A Chicago man and one-time Marine was charged with his tenth retail theft, according to court records.

Floyd Carter, 54, was caught allegedly stealing a watch from Target, 7100 S Cicero Ave., in Bedford Park, on May 31.

Prosecutors told the judge that Carter had nine prior retail thefts dating back to 1999, not counting the most recent.

The assistant public defender said that Carter was employed as a laborer and at had been a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the 1980s.

Noting his high pretrial risk assessment score of 14 on a scale of 0-25, the judge ordered Carter held on $75,000 bail, with electronic home monitoring if he is able to bond out.
