Forgery Case Fugitive Pinched for Passing Fraudulent Checks: PROSECUTORS

Man was wanted in three states on forgery charges, prosecutors said.

A man wanted in three states for forgery was caught trying to pass bad checks at an Evergreen Park supermarket, prosecutors said.

Victor Barnes, 50, of South Holland, was arrested at Pete’s Market, 3720 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park, on June 1.

According to the charges, Barnes tried to pay for $200 worth of groceries by writing a check. The cashier would not accept the check because it was against store policy.

Barnes went to another line to pass a check. When he saw that police were present, he ran away, prosecutors said.

Barnes was apprehended by the police and taken into custody where he was charged with forgery.

It was also discovered that Barnes had active arrest warrants out of Winnebago County, IL, Michigan and Wisconsin, all on forgery charges.

Bail was set at $150,000 with ten-percent to apply. His next court appearance is June 24 in Bridgeview.
