High School Student Charged With Using ID He Got from 'Friend-of-a-Friend'

Student said a "friend of a friend" gave him ID to cash a $9,000 check in exchange for $1,500, prosecutor said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A high school student was arrested after he tried to cash a check at a payday loan store using a fraudulent driver’s license in Evergreen Park, prosecutors said.

Correll Ball, 19, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of possession of a fraudulent ID. He was also charged with misdemeanor theft of mislaid property. He is currently on probation out of Lake County, IN,

The prosecutor said Ball went to the payday loan store on April 3 where he presented a check for $9,000. When he presented the driver’s license, it came back fraudulent. The check was real.

Ball allegedly told police that a “friend of a friend” gave him the fake license. Ball said his friend told him he could earn $1,500 if he would cash the check at the payday loan store, according to the prosecutor.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Ball is still in high school and set to graduate in June. He worked at FedEx but left a month ago after being shot.

Ball was released on a $30,000 I bond. His due back in court April 26 in Bridgeview.
