MEDICAL EXAMINER: Man Found Near Burbank Park Died of Hypothermia

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled hypothermia as the main cause of death of a homeless man whose lifeless body was discovered near Narragansett Park in Burbank late Monday afternoon.

James Nanfeldt, 61, died from hypothermia due to cold exposure, complicated by cardiovascular disease, a spokesman for the medical examiner’s office said.

Burbank Beat reported that police responded to a call of unresponsive man near the area of 75th Street and Narragansett around 5:30 p.m. Monday. When officers arrive, they found the body of a man lying in a wooded area.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and listed as a “John Doe.”

An autopsy was performed Tuesday. Nanfeldt’s death has been ruled accidental.

Burbank Police said Nanfeldt was homeless. He had no children and was never married.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to this man’s surviving family,” police said on the Burbank Police Facebook page.
