Man With Revoked Concealed-Carry Arrested When Cops Find Gun in Car: Reports
Homer Glen man told Oak Lawn police it was more comfortable to drive without gun on so he put it on the front seat, cops said.
OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn police released a man on a misdemeanor weapons charge over the Fourth of July holiday weekend when he was caught driving with a handgun before police were able to find out why his conceal-carry license had been revoked, reports said.
Osama K. Alshuabi, 32, of Homer Glen, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and released from the Oak Lawn jail on a $150 bond. According to the report, police were alerted around 9:20 p.m. July 1 of a vehicle traveling a high rate of speed southbound on Cicero Avenue
The officer saw the vehicle slow down at 91st Street and Cicero, but when the light turned green the vehicle accelerated again. The vehicle was clocked allegedly going 52 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. The driver pulled over into the parking lot near 96th Street and Cicero. Police said the officer ran the plate and learned that the driver, identified as Alshuabi, had a conceal-carry license.

The officer told Alshuabi to keep his hands on the steering wheel because the officer could not initially see into the car. When the officer went to the passenger side, he was able to see a semi-automatic handgun on the passenger seat, police said. When Alshuabi exiting the vehicle, the officer learned that Alshuabi’s conceal-carry license was revoked.
Alshuabi allegedly told police that he usually wears the gun in a holster around his waist. Alshuabi said he took the gun out of the holster and placed it on the passenger seat because it was uncomfortable driving with it on, according to the report.

Police said the officer removed the gun and magazine from the car. The magazine was loaded with six rounds but there was no round in the chamber. The officer secured the handgun and magazine in the patrol box.
While being interviewed at the Oak Lawn police station, Alshuabi exercised his right to have a lawyer present. The interview was terminated. Police contacted the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. The assistant state’s attorney said he could not confirm or deny the charges based on the information given. He told the officer to contact Illinois State Police and ask why Alshuabi’s conceal-carry license was revoked.
Due to the Illinois State Police’s delay in getting back to Oak Lawn police, Alshuabi was charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon. He was processed and held pending posting bond. Alshuabi is due back in court Aug. 7 in Bridgeview.
